Why we like it: One of three Bridal Rogue Gallery boutiques (the others are in London and Harrogate), this is a little gem just moments from York’s most picturesque shopping street, The Shambles. Open since 1999, this is the second of owner Catriona’s boutiques, which all share a similar vibe of relaxed luxury, a refined sanctuary from the lively hubbub of the city outside.
As well as a range of well-known names like Pronovias and Ian Stuart, this dress shop also carries the lesser spotted labels like vintage-inspired Lou Lou and the owner’s eponymous couture creations, which have been sold in Harrods.
But it’s not just wedding dresses here, there’s a lovely range of bridesmaids’ dresses by Ghost, as well as a wide selection of those all-important accessories by leading designers such as Jenny Packham and Stephanie Browne, not to mention the slightly more unusual shoes by Irregular Choice. Time to get your bling on!

Why we like it: There’s something a bit different about Glory Days. It doesn’t have a shop front, and is up three floors of a listed building in the centre of York. It’s for people in the know, but it’s also all about friendly, accommodating service, and making your vision a reality. The studio itself is a breath of fresh air with a minimalist mid-century vibe: clean and uncluttered.
Then there’s the dresses. One of York’s only vintage bridal shops, Hayley has a wonderful edit of genuine vintage gowns, with over 150 in stock at any given time. Not only that, but Glory Days is also home to her line of vintage-inspired gowns, Rolling in Roses, which are available to customise in different fabrics and colours.
Love vintage but can’t find quite the right dress? Don’t worry, Hayley is an accomplished seamstress and can bring your dream dress to life.

Why we like it: Housed in a quaint 700 year old building, Andrea Bambridge’s shop sits nestled underneath the York Minster. But the cosiness doesn’t end there… Every appointment start with a cup of tea! Inside the boutique it’s all beams and wood floors, packed full of dresses.
Andre Bambridge stocks dress designers that cover a range of shapes and tastes: Calista for plus size, Eliza Jane Howell for embellished vintage slinkiness, Jesus Peiro for classical Grace Kelly-style elegance, Forget Me Not for a bit of everything. Sleeves, tea length, A-line: her selection of designers includes something for all.

Why we like it: Easily accessible on a main road, you can’t miss Wedding Belles and Beaus. Neither would you want to: it’s pretty much a one-stop shop for your entire wedding party, with bridal gowns, mother of the bride outfits, bridesmaids dresses and everything your groomsmen could possibly need. Just don’t bring everybody at once – there has to be some element of sartorial surprise on the big day!
With some of the biggest and best known bridal gown designers, Wedding Belles and Beaus stocks the latest in bridal fashions – so you’ll always be keeping up with the trends.
