Set within the city walls, this is a new hotel with all mod cons that still retains a sense of York history throughout its décor. Luxury comes as standard with king sized beds being the norm. It’s great for business and pleasure alike and is conveniently placed for all of the city’s lovely attractions, including the Shambles.

The restaurant and bar, No. 88 Walmgate, are modern and trendy with the focus very much on Yorkshire produce and Yorkshire traditions, including deals or packages incorporating York’s famous chocolate heritage. Hotel Indigo is also less than 10 minutes’ walk from our gorgeous medieval venue, the Merchant Adventurers Hall. Bonus!

What we like:

This Michelin starred restaurant with rooms also boasts 4 AA rosettes (four!) for its food, as well as four AA stars and a gold award for its accommodation. With a mere 8 rooms, it’s about quality over quantity, and you can definitely feel it! The rooms are set away from the restaurant, all with lovely characterful bathrooms: some have copper tubs, others have wetroom walk-in showers. There are even a couple of four poster beds.

The Black Swan at Oldstead is a treat at any time of year, but it would be the icing on the cake for you or your guests to stay in. Set in the picturesque North York Moors National Park, it’s quiet and peaceful yet still easily accessible from York and the surrounding area.

The Alhambra is a really traditional hotel, ideal if you have older wedding guests and you want to give them the standard of accommodation they’ve been accustomed to over the years. It’s decorated in a gorgeous old-fashioned style, with an amazing galleried staircase and many charming period details. The Garden Room, pictured, is a rich celebration of the opulence of times gone by – imagine taking your cup of tea in here with a view to the manicured mature gardens outside!
