Stacy and Oliver used Allerton Castle’s stunning state rooms to great effect for their fabulous “Vintage Glam” styled wedding celebration on 18th May 2013.
Stacey says: My partner Oliver and I had been together for five years before he popped the question and even though we knew we would get married one day I never expected that he would ask me.
We were on holiday in Lake Garda. On the day we arrived the sun was out and we had an evening meal before Oliver suggested that we have a stroll to the lake. We sat in a little outside bar and it was all very romantic, but then this hurricane wind started and huge hail stones (accompanied by thunder and lightning!) began to fall…
So we retreated to the hotel and sitting on our balcony watching the thunder storm, I could have burst into tears because it was July in Italy and it was raining!
Then Oliver asked me to sit on the bed and close my eyes. When I opened them he was down on one knee with a beautiful ring! I have never been so speechless or shocked in my whole life and of course I said yes!
We decided to get married in 2013 as I have a thing about the number 13: we got engaged on July 13th and my birthday is the 13th of the month.
When we got back from our holiday we had no idea what kind of wedding we wanted, so we asked our friends and family to suggest venues that they loved.
We viewed Allerton Castle first. When we arrived and drove up to the castle we both got butterflies.
We couldn’t believe how beautiful the building was and just fell in love with it straight away.
Sophie from Dine met us there and showed us around and when she took us into the drawing room we both filled up, we were just blown away.
So Allerton Castle was the only venue we looked at and a few weeks later we took our parents back with us and set the date for 18th May 2013.
We chose Dine as Sophie made everything easy and we knew people who had been to weddings which they had catered for before and highly recommended them.
In fact, I would recommend this venue and Dine to any couple who are getting married. Our wedding day was just more than we could of ever dreamed of, Dine and the castle staff were fantastic and kept everyone amazed, fed and watered all day.
We chose a “Vintage Glam” theme.
I am a wedding hair and makeup artist so I get to see a lot of dresses and I had no idea of what I wanted to wear! Finding a dress was pretty hard, but after trying about 110 on, my friend from Alexia Designs helped me out.
I found the perfect dress and worked with an amazing dressmaker who cut bits off and added bits on to make it my very own unique dress.
The bridesmaids looked great in vivid magenta (also from Alexia Designs) and the men wore evening tails from Hanson Menswear Hire in Wakefield.
Choosing a photographer was easy! I asked an industry friend whose work I Iove. As she’s not usually a wedding photographer and we wanted the images to be informal she was perfect!
When it came to food, we went for a Filo Parcel of Camembert & Cranberry, followed by Roast Beef and then a Treacle Sponge. We went for a tasting session which was amazing and we tried the wines that Dine recommended which were perfect.
On the day the waiting staff were excellent – we have never experienced such efficient service. They also kept everyone’s drinks topped up!
Jill Springall was our florist and knew exactly what we wanted, using a swatch of the bridesmaid dress fabric. There were flowers everywhere!
The band are friends of mine and made sure that we had live music playing all day long. They didn’t know our first dance song so they learnt it just for us and got everyone dancing!
Sophie from Dine was just brilliant all day! She kept making sure me and Oliver were ok and the whole day just ran perfectly. She was lovely and made us feel we had know her for ever.
We went on our honeymoon on the Tuesday after we got married. We flew to the Maldives for 10 nights and then Dubai for 4 nights. The whole trip was amazing and it was so nice to completely relax and unwind and start our married life.
My top tip for other brides would be to try to take the whole day in as it goes so quickly! After we got married Sophie took Oliver and I up to our room with a glass of champagne to have a few minutes with each other and that was perfect.
