Emily & Will’s Allerton Castle Wedding

20/08/2014

Venue: Allerton Castle

Event Manager: Dine

We would certainly recommend Allerton, the venue is beautiful and spacious inside so if it rains it won’t ruin the day. There are so many great photo opportunities inside and around the venue and Dine are fantastic!

Emily, Allerton Castle Bride

Emily & Will’s beautiful Allerton Castle wedding was packed with pretty and personal touches.  Within Allerton’s stunning stone walls, even a downpour couldn’t spoil it their day…

Emily says: We got engaged the day before my 25th birthday. Will made me a meal and told me to wear something nice, when I came into the kitchen he was on one knee with a ring. He had chosen to do it then because he knew I would prefer an initiate proposal rather than in front of lots of people. He had pink champagne on ice and had bought pink roses. We rang our family, who many of them already knew and were waiting by the phone but the best moment was telling my friends down the phone and hearing them scream with happiness, they came straight round with champagne and at that moment I asked two of them to be my Bridesmaids. We already had plans to celebrate my birthday the next day so it also became an engagement party!

I wanted my wedding to be local to my hometown Harrogate so we looked round 5 venues in the area. We choose Goldsborough Church to get married; Allerton Castle is only a 10 min drive away. When we looked round we knew it was perfect! I fell in love with the dining room and knew nothing could beat it.

We met with Lyndsey from Dine when we first looked round the Castle; she stood out from everyone else we had met and was very understanding.

I wanted a vintage, floral theme, with lots of bow detail. I got my inspiration from Pinterest and real weddings that I saw on blogs. I chose this theme because it was pretty and elegant and I love bows! I had floral teacups and teapots on some of the tables filled with flowers, on all the stationary and the backdrop in the photobooth. I also had a bow on the back of my dress and on all my stationary, so the theme was consistent throughout.

My colour scheme was peaches and cream. Peach is quite a vintage colour and also my favourite and I knew the colour’s would look beautiful in the bright blue dining room.

I chose a lacy Maggie Sottero fish tail, with a low back and I added a bow to the back. I chose this style because it complemented my figure and I loved the lace detail. I got it from The Harrogate Wedding Lounge who I would strongly recommend, their staff were fantastic and helpful!

My Bridesmaids wore a nude knee length Ted Baker dress with bright peach lace detail, which suited the scheme perfectly. The groomsmen wore navy tail coats with navy pin stripe trousers, this was Will’s chose; he wears suits regularly for work, so he wanted something a bit different.

I had a beautiful bouquet with peonies and roses; it had lots of peach and soft pinks and looked stunning! The Bridesmaids had a smaller version of my bouquet. The same flowers ran throughout the dining room and up the stairs in the main hall. Anna from Arcadian Flowers supplied the flowers, she really understood the theme and look I was going for and delivered the most beautiful flower arrangements, I would highly recommend her.

We were invited to a tasting at The Mansion; we chose two things per course to try and we also got to try the wine. We were really pleased we had tasted our menu and it was good opportunity to talk to Lyndsey about all the plans for the day and how the day would run.

We had a 4 tiered cake with layers of our favourite fillings; fruit, Victoria sponge, apricot and coffee. It had peach icing and bows and lace detail. A family friend made it, who specialises in cakes

I wanted to make the day personal to us so we added photographs on the ledges in the dining room of us and our family, we also put a photograph of us both when we were little on the fireplace ledge behind the top table. Will lost his Father the year before the wedding so for favours we made a donation to the St Kentigern’s hospice that did an excellent job of looking after him.

Pawprintz Cards did our stationery. I picked a pretty floral pattern that had pink and peach flowers in and we used this with brown card to get a shabby chic look. Everyone commented on how beautiful my invitations were, it was all perfect, I would highly recommend Ann.

I also used an external chair company because I am not keen on linen chair covers so we ordered lime wash Camelot chairs from YL Events, their service was fantastic and the chairs looked great in the dining room.

For the evening we had a sweet table and a photobooth by Booth Revolution. The photobooth was so much fun, guests of all ages were queuing for their turn and we got a guest book with a copy of everyone’s picture and a lovely message from them. It was great fun, I would certainly recommend them.

We had been to our friend’s wedding the year before and seen the band Maslow play the song we wanted for our first dance so we asked them then and there if they would play at our wedding. They were great and really got the crowd going on the dance floor.

I loved everything about the day but if I had to choose a favourite moment it was walking down the aisle to see Will smiling at me.

For our honeymoon, we went to Lake Garda in Italy for 7 nights, were we stayed in a luxury Spa hotel, which was great because everything had been so hectic before the wedding so it was nice to relax and spend time together. We then moved onto Venice for 3 nights, which was fun as we spent most of the time ‘getting lost’ which was the best way to see the city. Both destinations were stunning!

My top tip for other Brides would be don’t worry about the weather. I checked the weather forecast every day running up to the day, which constantly changed. On the day it rained in the morning and then it was glorious sunshine by 5 o’clock but it didn’t affect the day in anyway and I hardly noticed it, especially in such a beautiful venue like Allerton Castle.
