The Garden Room team have joined forces with the College of Music and have created a fantastic schedule of monthly music nights, which have proved to be a huge success.

The evenings  showcase a fantastic variety of vocal, contemporary and jazz artistes, including a magnificent evening in conjunction with Opera North, which, when combined with our Chef's complementary menus, make for some wonderfully memorable evenings at The Mansion.

Opera North - Victoria Sharp and Graham Campbell Russell
Sit back and enjoy a Mozart Opera Dinner in the company of two of Opera North’s finest performers. Expert chefs will be serving up an authentic three-course Austrian dinner, set to the stirring tones of Victoria Sharp and Graham Campbell Russell performing some of the finest masterpieces from the sumptuous operatic canon.

Alexandra Lowe – Classical Singer 
Alexandra is an up and coming 21-year-old soprano from Lancashire. Having secured a scholarship at the Royal Northern College of Music – where she is now studying - she has been quoted to be a star of the future. Recent performances include Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers, The Watch Duet from Die Fledermaus, Vivaldi’s Gloria, the role of Hope in Cole Porter’s Anything Goes, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, The Merry Widow by Lehár and Paradise Moscow by Shostakovich. Alexandra is the competition winner of the Elsie Thurston Song Prize (2012) and the Onken Song Prize (2013). Alexandra was awarded second prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Young Singers Bursary, being the only female prize-winner.

The Guitar, The Heart of Spain – Samuel Moore and Michael Christian Durrant
Join two of the finest guitarists in the UK as they come together to present this special evening of exploration into the Spanish guitar. The Guitar, The Heart of Spain, presented by flamenco guitarist Samuel Moore and classical guitarist Michael Christian Durrant, is a rare opportunity to hear flamenco music and classical guitar music performed in one exciting concert. Moore will showcase the flamenco tradition in all its diverse forms, from fiery dances such as the Bulerias and Tangos, to deep introspective laments such as Solea and Tarrantas. Durrant will compliment this by exploring how composers such as De Falla, Rodrigo, Turina and Tarrega drew on flamenco influences to create their own original works for the guitar. A truly fascinating evening of music, not to be missed!

Jazzmundo – Gypsy Jazz
Hot rhythms and memorable tunes tastefully arranged and played with great energy; the perfect music for an evening of fun, charm and style! Their music is laid back, acoustic and memorable – a classic combination of acoustic guitars, violin, double bass and clarinet/saxophone/accordion performing the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli, as well as many others.

Violinist Matt Holborn with His Gypsy Jazz Quartet

“Amongst other young jazz violinists in the UK, Matt stands out with his instantly recognisable sound, violin techniques and intelligent musicality.”

The Matt Holborn Quartet are an exciting young gypsy jazz band based in Leeds. Playing a mix of gypsy swing, jazz standards, bebop and world music, the quartets main aim is to keep this style of jazz fresh, new and exciting whilst paying homage to the traditions of the music. Matt has also performed for The Queen at Buckingham Palace as well as other venues and festivals throughout Europe such as Kings Place London, Django Reinhardt Festival Samois sur Seine in France, Brecon Jazz Festival, Upton Jazz Festival and Seven Arts Leeds.

Join Phil Lyons for a special festive evening of swing classics. Lyons is a modern day crooner, with a beautiful Bass/Baritone voice. He possesses the natural, smooth vocal technique associated with the great singers of the 20th century such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and Tony Bennet. Lyons performs with style and charisma, breathing new life into classic songs.
